Markov modeling of transient scattering and its application in multi-aspect target classification

چکیده
Transient scattered fields from a general target are composed of wavefronts, resonances and time delays, with these constituents linked to the target geometry. A classifier applied to transient scattering data requires a statistical model for such fundamental constituents. A Markov model is employed to characterize the transient scattered fields for a set of target-sensor orientation over which the transient scattering is stationary utilizing a wavefront, resonance, time-delay “alphabet”. The Markov model is utilized in a classifier developed for multi-aspect transient scattering data, with a hidden Markov model (HMM) employed to address the generally non-stationary nature of the multi-aspect waveforms. Each state of the HMM is characteristic of a set of target-sensor orientations for which the scattering statistics are stationary, the statistics of which are characterized via the aforementioned Markov model. The wavefront, resonance and time-delay features are extracted via a modified matchingpursuits algorithm.

Information-Theoretic Analysis of Transient Multi-Aspect Scattering
Information theory is applied to the problem of multi-aspect, time-domain scattering from a general target. The statistical variation of the scattered fields with variable target-sensor orientation is characterized via a hidden Markov model (HMM), a state of which corresponds to a generally contiguous set of target-sensor orientations over which the angular-dependent scattered fields are statio...

The relevance vector machine (RVM) is applied for feature-vector quantization (codebook design) and for density-function estimation in high-dimensional feature space. The RVM represents a Bayesian extension of the widely applied support vector machine (SVM). The use of RVMs for quantization and density-function estimation is explored with application to discrete and continuous HMMs, respectivel...
متن کاملFeature Selection for Classification Based on Sequential Data
We consider the problem of selecting features from a sequence of transient waveforms, with the goal of improved classification performance. For the example studied here, the waveforms are representative of multi-aspect acoustic scattering from an underwater elastic target. The feature selection is performed via a traditional genetic algorithm (GA), with the principal focus on definition of an a...
متن کاملClass - based Target Identification with Multi - Aspect Scattering Data
In underwater sensing applications it is often difficult to train a classifier in advance for all targets that may be seen during testing, due to the large number of targets that may be encountered. We therefore partition the training data into target classes, with each class characteristic of multiple targets that share similar scattering physics. In some cases one may have a priori insight in...

This article formulates a new technique for behavior analysis of systems through fuzzy Kolmogorov's differential equations and Particle Swarm Optimization. For handling the uncertainty in data, differential equations have been formulated by Markov modeling of system in fuzzy environment. First solution of these derived fuzzy Kolmogorov's differential equations has been found by Runge-Kutta four...
